'Backpacks for Good' event taking place on August 6 in Benton Harbor
BENTON HARBOR, Mich. -- The Berrien Community Foundation will give out 1,100 backpacks with school supplies to the students who live in the 49022 ZIP code regardless of what school they attend.
The Berrien Community Foundation is hosting 'Backpacks for Good' on August 6 from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Dwight P. Mitchell City Center Park in downtown Benton Harbor.
“Backpacks For Good helps to alleviate financial burdens many families experience this time of year as their student heads back to school,” said Berrien Community Foundation President Lisa Cripps-Downey.
Smaller backpacks will be available for students in kindergarten through fifth grade and larger backpacks will be available for students in sixth through twelfth grade.
“We enjoy serving the community, bringing people together, and connecting them with local organizations and resources,” Cripps-Downey added.
Whirlpool Corporation sponsored the event and had employees prepare the backpacks behind the scenes.
There will also be farm-fresh vegetables and other food items available.
Students are encouraged to come in order to pick out the backpack's color.
No registration is required to attend.
