Atleast 19 vehicles have gone into buildings across Michiana since March 2024

SOUTH BEND, Ind -- ABC57 has reported on at least 19 vehicles that have driven into structures since March 2023, that includes 4 into homes. The Civil Rights Heritage Center on Sunday and a Hickory Village Apartment Monday Morning were among the latest structures, struck.

The Civil Rights Heritage Center had only minor damage, but other local businesses have not been so lucky.

ABC57’s Jackie Bauer spoke with a representative from the South Bend Police Department who shared the number of factors that have been attributed to the accidents they have seen.

“When we’re talking about that is what is causing that in a lot of our cases at least and I’m sure around the areas various different reason so it could be a medical reason. It could be a maybe driving under the influence or it could just be simply an accident,” said Ashley O’Chap.

The Department is warning drivers to be safe whenever they get behind the wheel, no matter the case.
