Animal shelter offering half-priced pet adoptions in October

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind.—To celebrate “Adopt a Shelter Dog” month in October, the Humane Society of St. Joseph County is offering discounted pet adoptions.

During the month of October, adoption fees for dogs and cats are half-priced. Cats must be over the age of six-months-old to be included in the promotion.

On Wednesday, the shelter said it currently has over 300 animals in its care, with 250 of those animals being cats.

The shelter had to cancel its annual trunk-or-treat event this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and instead, they’re running a virtual pet costume contest through October 31.

It’s the facility's 10-year anniversary this year, according to a post on the shelter’s Facebook page, and over 40,000 animals have passed through its doors since it first opened.

For information on the shelter’s adoption application process and how to participate in the costume contest, visit the shelter’s website.
