American Legion Post 210 hosts Third Annual Michiana Food Truck Showdown
ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- Middlebury's American Legion Post 210 held it's third annual Food Truck Showdown Saturday, where food trucks came and compete for who serves the best food.
This year, event organizers had to limit the number of trucks to 25 due to being at capacity in years past.
The event brings in people from all across Michiana.
"We have 12 thousand people interested in the event this year, it's a lot of people and its fun," says Gracie Barksdale, one of the attendees
The Legion tries to pick and choose which trucks come to make sure there are all different kinds of foods at the event.
“We are selective because we want to make sure we offer different varieties of food," says Leland Barksdale, Post Commander for American Legion Post 210. "We don't want to plug everything with just burgers or just barbeque we want to have a diverse pallet for cuisine.”
The event is more than just a food truck competition. There are games, raffles, inflatables for kids and more for in between meals.
Barksdale says, “As you can see, it brings in quite a few people that may not know about us otherwise.”
Barksdale created this event three years ago to bring together the community. He says, “I became commander 3 years ago and I wanted to do something that would bring the community in and experience our post and see what we are about.”
Proceeds from the event are donated or used for future events.
“It's our biggest fundraiser of the year; we use the money and proceeds we bring into helping the community and sponsor other projects," says Commander Barksdale.
Gracie Barksdale says her favorite part is the dessert truck, "My favorite food truck is probably the ice cream because I love ice cream so much.”
