ELKHART, Ind. -- Elkhart Community Schools has once again been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education Award from The NAMM Foundation, marking the seventh consecutive year the district has received this national recognition for outstanding support and commitment to music education.

Now in its 27th year, the BCME program highlights school districts and schools across the United States that demonstrate exceptional dedication to music education and equitable access to music learning as part of a well-rounded education.

In 2026, more than 1,000 school districts and schools, including public, private, charter, and parochial institutions, were recognized for their achievement in providing high-quality music instruction.

“Music education is an essential part of a well-rounded education, helping students grow creatively, academically and personally,” said Kyle Weirich, coordinator of K–12 Music for Elkhart Community Schools. “This honor reinforces the importance of the work happening in our classrooms every day and the lasting impact music has on student success.”

Recipients of the 2026 BCME Awards were selected through a comprehensive application and review process evaluating key indicators such as funding, instructional time, participation rates, facilities and community support.
