ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind.---The 8th Annual Hunger Bowl between Marian High School and St. Joseph High School kicked of at 8 a.m. Friday morning. The charity drive raises food and money for the food pantry of St. Vincent de Paul Society.
The competition began in 2011 when alums from both schools decided to come together in the name of their rivalry.
"It started pretty small. We really didn’t know what to expect but it’s always been enough," said Anne Watson, Executive Director for St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Donations can be made at either school until 3 p.m. Friday afternoon. The winner is based on the amount of pounds raised per the number of students at the school and will be announced at halftime of the "Holy War" football game between Marian and St. Joseph High Schools Friday night.
Marian High School currently holds the Hunger Bowl trophy for winning the competition last year. ABC 57 will have highlights of that game during its Friday Night Football broadcast.
