44-year-old woman injured in two-vehicle crash

CASS COUNTY, Mich. -- The Cass County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Runkle Street and Anderson Road around 4:15 p.m., Wednesday.

Deputies' investigation determined a vehicle, driven by 49-year-old Gary Vargo of Dowagiac, was traveling west on Runkle when he didn't see the stop sign at the intersection, due to the sign being knocked down.

The report states as Vargo drove through the intersection of Runkle and Anderson, 44-year-old Lauren Sampson, of Niles, was traveling north on Anderson.

Sampson then entered the intersection where she was struck by Vargo.

Vargo and his three passengers were checked by EMS at the scene and released.

Sampson was taken to Lakeland Niles for injuries from the crash.

Authorities say seatbelts were worn at the time of the crash and neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor.
