30-year-old man charged with felony Child Molesting, Domestic Battery
Daniel Stevens LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- Court Documents from La Porte County reveal a 30-year-old man has been charged with Child Molesting, a Level 1 Felony, and Domestic Battery with Bodily Injury, a Level 5 Felony, stemming from allegations in November.
The suspect, identified as Daniel Stevens, will have his initial hearing on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.
On Nov. 19, a detective with the Michigan City Police Department was informed by the Department of Child Services of a child abuse allegation.
Also on Nov. 19, a meeting was scheduled with the victim's DCS case manager, where it was observed the victim had an apparent bruise and abrasion on their face, according to authorities.
The following contains details some may find disturbing.
Following this discovery, documents state the victim was taken to the hospital for further inspection, which led to the discovery of an injury to the victim's genitals.
When asked about the injury, investigators say the victim's mother stated the victim had sustained it from pulling on their own genitals.
A Pediatric Nurse Practitioner at Riley Hospital for Children noted the following:
"The injury would not be consistent with self-inflicted injury. Not only would injury as result of normal child behavior (pulling, grabbing, touching of the genitalia) be extremely abnormal in an otherwise healthy child, the fact that this same behavior was acknowledged in an alternate environment with the absence of any bruising or injury, would further speak against this being plausible explanation. At this time, Victim 1's genital bruising is consistent with inflicted injury/physical abuse."
A forensic interview was then done with the victim on Nov. 19.
According to court documents, the victim stated, "Daniel hurt me." The victim then clarified Stevens had bitten their genitals and "it felt bad."
Police say the victim knew the names of body parts and pointed to their genitals when describing where Stevens bit them.
Police say the victim further stated, "Daniel just bit me," and repeated he'd hurt him on other occasions.
The medical evaluation revealed injuries on the victim's genitalia and additional injuries, including bruising on their head, eye, and lower back.
