Yogis of all levels are invited to Yoga on Ice at Howard Park

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Howard Park invites the yoga community, at all levels of their practice, for Yoga on Ice-- their take on turning hot yoga on its head.

Anyone is welcome to center their mind and body for an outdoor flow in this unique experience at the serene Tire Rack Ice Pond, but you'll need to sign a waiver first.

If you're used to channeling your inner zen with a warrior 2 or star pose in a traditional studio, be prepared to be challenged.

This 45-minute session is at no cost, but there's a few things necessary to prepare.

  • Arrive early. Class starts promptly at 9:30 a.m. Arrive at least 15 minutes before to sign a waiver and get a spot. Those arriving too close to 9:30 may not be permitted on the ice.
  • Dress warm. This isn't your average yoga session. Shoes, socks, legwarmers, coats, gloves and even sunglasses-- to prevent the sun's blinding rays from reflecting off the ice and into your eyes--are necessary. Howard Park suggests dressing in layers. "Try to figure out how to be as warm as possible without being too bulky or you won’t be able to do the poses," they say.
  • Bring a yoga mat and beach towel. The beach towel keeps the mat from sliding around on the ice.

Yoga on Ice takes place on Saturday, January 20 from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m.
