SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Local activists and LGBTQ supporters gathered in South Bend to write letters to Indiana state legislators urging them not to overturn Governor Eric Holcomb’s veto of HEA 1041.
House Enrolled Act 1041 was proposed in an effort to ban transgender girls from participating in school sports.
"Let our legislators know that trans people do exist in their district. They exist right here in South bend and in the greater Michiana area, and they're just kids, and they just want to play with their friends,” said H.R. Jung, Executive Director of the LGBTQ Center of South Bend.
Participating activists want the Indiana senate and house representatives to let the veto stand and communicate that the Hoosier state is welcome to all people.
