Woman injured in domestic assault, suspect arrested

STURGIS, Mich. -- A Sturgis man was arrested after allegedly assaulting a woman at a home Sunday morning, according to Sturgis Police.

Police were called to a home on Mechanic Street to investigate a domestic assault in progress.

When officers arrived, they could hear a woman inside the home screaming for help, police said.

After no one answered the door, officers forced entry into the home and found a man assaulting the woman, reports said.

The suspect, a 38-year-old man from Sturgis, was taken into custody on a preliminary charge of domestic violence.

The woman was treated at the scene by paramedics and released.
