SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The commissioner of the WNBA is expected to step down.

Sources tell ESPN that Cathy Engelbert is expected to retire from the role at the end of the 2026 season. 

She was named commissioner in May 2019. She has overseen significant growth and development for the league in her tenure. This includes increasingly valuable media rights, market expansion, and increased salaries for high-profile players.
