ELKHART, Ind. -- New video obtained by Elkhart resident Steve Erwin shows the dramatic end to the mass shooting last night that left five people shot including two police officers at Martins Supermarket in Elkhart.
Erwin recounted the dramatic scene saying "At 5:33pm, I heard what I thought were fireworks going off. I hear at least "10" loud bangs that I then realized were gunshots. There was also noticeable shouting and yelling. I was steps away from my balcony door with my phone and started taking video. Attached is a video of what happened about 5 seconds after the shooting stopped, and the police approached the area they were shooting toward. The police were shooting toward almost directly outside the River Point West Apartment Office entrance-on the south side of the Apartment building. I did not witness the shooting, just the following moments."
The names of the suspect, victims, and involved officers are being withheld at this time, pending family notification.
"Our hearts are broken in Elkhart tonight. Please continue to pray for the victims including our two police officers who were wounded, our heroic first responders, and those at the incident," said Elkhart Mayor Rod Roberson.
"There is no immediate danger to the public. If there were any witnesses or if you have information, please contact the Elkhart County Homicide Unit at 574-295-2825."
