UPDATE: Victim identified in Wednesday’s fatal hit-and-run, suspect identified
Elkhart county Jail: Hugo Loza Jr. UPDATE: A 20-year-old Elkhart man is facing charges in connection with Wednesday night's fatal hit-and-run crash on S. Main Street.
The Elkhart Police Department reports as of 2:30 p.m., Friday, Hugo Loza Jr. has been preliminarily charged with charges of Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death, a Level 4 Felony; Operating While Intoxicated-Prior, a Level 6 Felony; and Operating While Intoxicated-Prior, ≥ .08, a Level 6 Felony.
Loza was arrested on Thursday.
Loza remains in Elkhart County Jail, and his bond is set at $300,000.
His initial court hearing is scheduled for Aug. 21.
This case has been forwarded to the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office for review of formal criminal charges.
ORIGINAL STORY: ELKHART, Ind. – Elkhart Police Department identified the victim from Wednesday’s fatal hit and run crash in the 2200 block of S. Main St.
He has been identified as 56-year-old, Jose Padilla Redondo, of Elkhart.
Officers located the suspect vehicle, a Chevrolet Silverado, in the 24000 block of Co Rd 26. Officers arrested a 20-year-old male suspect and booked him into the Elkhart County Jail on preliminary charges in connection with this investigation, including Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury and Causing Death When Operating a Vehicle with an ACE of .08 or More.
This arrest will be forwarded to the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office for review of formal criminal charges.
