The clock is ticking on a historic United Auto Workers strike.
If a deal is not reached tonight, then workers from the three main Motor City carmakers, Ford, GM, and Stellantis, could begin a passionate protest with their sights set on higher pay and a less strenuous work environment.
The potential walkout would not only have wide-reaching implications on the car industry, but it also could impact the future employees of the new GM electric vehicle battery plant scheduled to open in New Carlisle.
The new plant is expected to be a boon for the Michiana community, but the looming strike could halt production and push back the expected opening date of 2026.
