MISHAWAKA, Ind - Get ready for an epic weekend at the movies, as two highly anticipated summer blockbusters, "Barbie" directed by Greta Gerwig and "Oppenheimer" directed by Christopher Nolan, are hitting theaters this Friday.

The phenomenon of experiencing both films in a double feature has been dubbed "Barbenheimer."

Even AMC reported that 40,000 people have already purchased tickets to watch both movies on the same day.

The National Association of Theatre Owners said they predict that more than 200,000 people across the United States have bought tickets for both Oppenheimer and barbie on the same day.

The juxtaposition of Barbie's light-hearted plot against Oppenheimer which details the creation of the atomic bomb is certainly sending fans into a frenzy.

Many across Michiana are excited to see the much-awaited movies. Some people like Notre Dame student, Braden Hanley plan to see both in the same day.

“These are two of the most anticipated movies of year, I usually go to the movies with my dad and were planning on seeing both on the same day when I go back home and I'm really excited for it, I'm really hyped from all the buzz so yeah it will be great,” said Hanley.

Barbie, the original doll, which was released all the way back in 1959-- is now bringing nostalgia to the big screen.

“We all grew up playing with Barbie, so just kind of seeing her in a more adult way is very exciting" said Maddie Hatfield, a student at Notre Dame

While Oppenheimer is bringing on the drama.

“It’s a big movie, big budget, all the characters, the director especially Christopher Nolan , I've been a longtime fan of him and all his work, I think it's going to be a great,” said Hatfield.

Cinemark's PR director, Cailtin Parker said customers don't have to choose.

“There is so much strong consumer demand that we’ve actually been adding additional showtimes to our theaters across the country because so many people, just can't miss out on this opening weekend fun,” said Parker.

Both Barbie and Oppenheimer at Cinemark here in Mishawaka start premiering tomorrow so be sure to get your tickets if you don't already have them.
