Two drivers cited for racing on SR 2 at speeds over 100 mph
LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- Two drivers were issued citations and a court summons to appear after allegedly racing on SR 2 at speeds in excess of 100 mph, according to the La Porte County Sheriff's Office.
Thursday afternoon a deputy located two vehicles traveling westbound on SR 2 near CR 400 East at a high rate of speed, deputies said.
They were traveling side-by-side at 104 mph, reports said.
A traffic stop was conducted on both vehicles.
Steven Allen, 56, was cited for exceeding the speed limit and issued a summons to appear in court for speed contest and reckless driving.
Rafael Jimenez Jr, 24, was cited for exceeding the speed limit and issued a summons to appear in court for speed contest, reckless driving and driving while suspended.
“Speeding, to this degree, is an extremely dangerous driving behavior. Speeding drivers put themselves, their passengers, and the motoring public - including LCSO deputies at tremendous risk. Deputies will continue to seek out and take appropriate enforcement action against speeding drivers to improve traffic safety on all La Porte County roadways,” Captain Derek J. Allen said.
