UPDATE: Court documents reveal events leading up to weekend stabbing in Goshen
Juan Manrique Ramirez, Bryan Rosales Torres UPDATE: Court documents from Elkhart County reveal Goshen police were called to Goshen Hospital for a man suffering from a stab wound.
The victim, later identified as Bryan Rosales Torres, was in the emergency room with a woman, identified as a witness. The woman acted a translator between Torres and police as he spoke Spanish.
The stab wound was found to be in the inner part of Torres' arm near his armpit.
Torres explained he found his roommate having sex with his girlfriend at a residence in the 400 block of 9th Street.
The witness told police Torres and her roommate were in a relationship, but it was complicated.
The witness stated she, Torres, his girlfriend, his roommate Juan Manrique Ramirez, and another roommate, had been at The Arena in Elkhart that Saturday evening.
Torres and Ramirez had gotten into an altercation when Ramirez started dancing with Torres' girlfriend, according to the witness.
The group, besides Ramirez and Torres' girlfriend, later went to the witness' apartment.
Torres was then dropped off at home where he found his girlfriend and Ramirez in "mid-action," according to documents.
The witness stated Torres grabbed a shovel to defend himself after Ramirez and another roommate came outside. The witness said Ramirez had a black knife.
Ramirez and Torres began fighting in the street. Torres allegedly hit the other man in the head with the shovel and stabbed Ramirez in the leg with the shovel.
Dispatch later informed police Ramirez wanted to press charges against Torres.
While speaking to Ramirez at the residence on 9th Street, police located a large kitchen knife with red liquid on the blade. Authorities say it was sitting on the dining room table.
Documents state there was also a white rag of some sort, stained red, lying against the knife.
A search warrant was filed and issued to collect the knife and rag as evidence.
Ramirez told police he and Torres' girlfriend had sex and that Torres entered the home while they were asleep or almost asleep. Torres then entered the bedroom at which point Ramirez was allegedly stabbed in the lower leg before the two men began fighting in the street.
During the street fight is when Torres said Ramirez stabbed him.
