Treacherous Thanksgiving travel with snow and wind on the way
Michiana's winter weather ramps up later today, likely resulting in treacherous travel through the afternoon and evening for the northern half of our forecast area. Lake effect snow and winds gusting up to 40 mph will both develop later this morning, although we likely won't experience winter weather impacts until the second half of the day. In some communities/cities across our southern Michigan counties, snow totals will meet or exceed three inches by the end of today. Traveling north toward Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, Lansing, or even Detroit by car will be dangerous at times beginning this afternoon and lasting until early tomorrow morning. Temperatures sit in the mid 30s all day today and drop to near freezing for most of tomorrow. A large system of low pressure moves in Friday night into early Saturday, potentially bringing several more inches of snow to all of Michiana this weekend. Expect significant travel delays Saturday and Sunday.
