Shooting leaves one injured at rest stop along I-94

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- The Berrien County Sheriff's Office confirmed they are investigating a shooting that took place on Monday, March 16, at approximately 7:12 p.m. at the rest area along westbound I-94 in Watervliet Township. 

A 34-year-old male was transported to Corewell Health Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound.

The victim is in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

A 26-year-old year-old male from Kalamazoo was booked at the Berrien County Jail on Monday for shooting related charges.

The suspect’s name is being withheld pending arraignment.

The Berrien County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Watervliet City Police Department, Coloma Township Police Department, Michigan State Police, and Medic One Ambulance.
