Tornado damage assessments continue Tuesday, Wednesday in Cass County
ABC57 CASS COUNTY, Mich. -- Cass County officials announced damage assessments will continue on Tuesday and Wednesday following recent severe storms and tornadoes.
It's part of a joint effort involving local, state, and federal agencies.
Local officials' initial assessments determined the damage to homes and businesses in Cass County and neighboring areas was significant.
The assessment teams are set to include representatives from local jurisdictions, Michigan, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the U.S. Small Business Administration, and township officials.
County officials say these teams will travel through impacted areas to verify damage and gather information to determine if further disaster assistance may be available.
Officials say residents may see officials visiting neighborhoods to visually assess damage from public rights-of-way or, in some cases, briefly approaching properties to document impacts.
No actions need to be taken by homeowners as the visits are only intended to document damage conditions.
Teams will not ask for personal financial information or require residents to complete applications during these visits.
Officials say these further assessments will determine the level of disaster assistance which may be available to support recovery efforts.
Residents with questions may contact Cass County Emergency Management at (269) 445-1249 for additional information.
