Zimmy's benefit fundraiser draws a large crowd at the Cass County Conservation Club
UNION, Mich. -- A benefit fundraiser drew a crowd at the Cass County Conservation Club to support Zimmy's Tavern employees impacted by the fire that destroyed the longtime local bar.
The fundraiser brought the community together with the venue reaching its capacity with attendees having to be turned away, a line extending out the door, and parking backed up along the street.
"I want to thank the community for showing up tonight. We've had an overwhelming amount of support tonight, and I just really want to thank the community for coming," said Ariel, a bartender at Zimmy's.
Ariel continues to say that staff were always treated like family, "He always made sure that I was taken care of, as far as like made sure I ate, made sure that the kitchen ran smoothly. He would make sure that everything was ready for the day. He's fantastic person."
Proceeds from the event will go directly to Zimmy's employees impacted by the fire.
Their next event will be on August 16.
