Millions of people across the country are gearing up for the Fourth of July fireworks, making it a fun time for many. For pets, however, it can be scary time for them.
If you plan on shooting off fireworks or live in an area where they will be shot off, Richard Headley, a veterinarian at Lincolnway Veterinary Clinic, provided some tips on how you can calm those fur babies!
He recommends noise canceling headphones, prescribed or over the counter anxiety medication. He also says a thunder shirt, which is a jacket that goes around the animal, can also help your pet's anxiety.
But Headley says the biggest comfort will come from the pet's owner.
"Petting them, talking to them carefully, letting them know things are alright. Don't make a big fuss about it because that will increase their anxiety."
