TikTok banned in Montana: Will other states do the same?

Montana has become the first state to pass legislation banning the use of TikTok.

Gov. Greg Gianforte signed the legislation and said he signed it " to protect Montanans' personal and private data from the Chinese Communist Party."

TikTok is owned by a China-based company and many U.S officials have expressed concern that the Chinese government could potentially access the data and use it in harmful ways.

TikTok has said it would push to fight the legislation and protect the rights of the people of Montana.

The ACLU has also expressed concern about the bill. It says the ban has "trampled on the free speech of hundreds of thousands of Montanans who use the app to express themselves and gather information."
