UPDATE: Mishawaka officer injured in three-vehicle crash on Cedar Street

UPDATE: Authorities say Uniform Division Chief Craig Nowacki with the Mishawaka Police Department was the officer involved in the crash at Cedar Street and Lincolnway East on Monday afternoon.

Police say Nowacki was traveling east on Lincolnway East.

The report states Nowacki had the green light and entered the intersection.

A vehicle on Cedar Street was traveling north when it entered the intersection according to authorities. The driver told police she thought she had the green light.

The woman's vehicle then struck Nowacki's police vehicle.

The report states this caused the police vehicle to strike a vehicle traveling west, which then almost struck the vehicle behind it.

Authorities say Nowacki sustained a wrist injury in the crash.

Nowacki is said to not have been on an emergency run.

Police say none of the drivers involved were suspected of being impaired.

ORIGINAL STORY: MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- St. Joseph County Dispatch confirmed to ABC57 a three-vehicle crash occurred at Cedar Street and Lincolnway East around 3:30 p.m., Monday.

Officials say a Mishawaka police vehicle was involved in the crash.

Authorities say four people were taken to the hospital.

Details of specific injuries are currently unknown.
