UPDATE: Suspect in Cass County triple stabbing suspect identified and taken in custody

CASS COUNTY, Mich. -- UPDATE: The Cass County Sheriff's Office has identified a suspect in the triple stabbing that occurred in Cass County Thursday night, and he's now in custody. 

A three count, Assault with Intent to Murder warrant has been issued for 28-year-old John Henry Coons, of the Dowagiac area.

The victims in the incident have been identified as 73-year-old Charles Coulson, who is currently in critical condition at Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo, 75-year-old Shirley Coulson, who is in stable condition at Lakeland Hospital, and 31-year-old Cody Coulson, who refused medical treatment.

On June 21, before 11:00 p.m., a resident on Spring Lake Road notified the Cass County Sheriff's Office that John Coons was in her driveway. 

The Cass County and Saint Joseph County Sheriff's Office's, and Michigan State Police Troopers responded and took John Coons into custody, after he surrendered peacefully. 

ORIGINAL STORY: The Cass County Sheriff's Office reports on Thursday, June 20, at 10:40 p.m., deputies responded to a stabbing at a residence in the 32000 block of School Street in Silver Creek Township.

Upon arrival, deputies found three victims who had sustained multiple stab wounds from an assailant. 

The victims include a 73-year-old man, a 75-year-old woman, and a 31-year-old man. 

The two older victims were taken to the hospital for treatment.

The 31-year-old victim refused medical treatment.

Authorities say the assailant fled the scene before deputies arrived and is currently at large.

Officials believe this to be a focused incident and there is no threat to the community.

The investigation is ongoing and the names of those involved have not been released at this time.
