Three sent to hospital, driver cited in Friday morning Elkhart crash
ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office, along with emergency medical services responded to a crash at the intersection of S.R. 119 and C.R. 40 around 5:36 a.m. Friday morning.
Upon arrival, they found two damaged vehicles and three injured people.
After an initial investigation, it was determined that a 2010 Nissan Maxima driven by 29-year-old Leidy Katherine Garcia Becerra, if Mishawaka, was heading east on C.R. 40 approaching S.R. 119, while a 2012 Nissan Versa was going southwest on S.R. 119, also approaching the intersection.
Police say Becerra disregarded a stop sign and collided with the Versa in the intersection.
The driver and a single passenger in the Versa were taken to Elkhart General Hospital for reported lower back and leg pain.
Becerra was taken to Goshen Hospital for complaints of chest pains. She was also cited for having never received a license, having no insurance, and disregarding a stop sign.
