The Unity Gardens brought music, food, and crafts for their Westside BBQ and Craft Festival

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Unity Gardens held their Westside BBQ & Craft Festival where different food vendors got a chance to let the community try their meals and sweet treats.

Craft vendors showcased their artworks, products, and even jewelry.

"The idea started with what we called the La Salle Square Luau. It was just a small gathering, a cookout with different people that were involved in Unity Gardens, and then we started wanting to bring all sorts of art artists, all sorts of culinary people, all sorts of informational booths to really make it more community oriented," said Sarah Stewart, the executive director and founder of Unity Gardens.

The festival featured live music and even a dunk tank for attendees to freshen up on a humid day.

"The dunk tank is the newest part of today, and I'm not sure if it was a favorite or not. It's weird how scary it could be when you're sitting in that tank, but it's super fun and interactive to have people want to dunk you," said Stewart.

She continues to say, " We don't charge vendors to be here or the chefs. They come here because they want to support, and then some of them also donate the proceeds back to Unity Gardens because they value either the Unity Garden in their neighborhood or out here, or just the idea that we could share in a different way."
