SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Throughout the month of October, the Dinosaur Museum will host many fall events over the course of the next few weekends. These festivals have fun for the whole family, with eating competitions, music, face painting, and more.
To kick off the start of the month, the museum hosted Oktoberfest. This event was a recreation of Oktoberfest that happens in Munich, Germany. What started as a royal wedding turned into a place where people can immerse themselves in German history, beer, and tons of fun activities surrounding the culture.
One man at the festival worked to spread the knowledge of the German language. He offered educational opportunities for visitors to learn simple phrases in the language.
Jeffrey Luppes explains, “I did not grow up speaking it. I learned it as an undergraduate in college. My wife is a German citizen, and she was an exchange student at my high school, so she sparked my interest back then, and I studied over there. I've lived over there and now teach it professionally.”
Luppes says he is working in the booth to also educate visitors on studying abroad opportunities and other ways visitors can dive into this culture. Luppes explains, “Maybe spark an interest, and hopefully they will continue on studying with studying it, either in school or in college”
The museum will host many other fun fall festivals throughout the month like Harvest Festival and even a Halloween weekend of fun to end the month.
