Teen killed after tree limb lands on car

POKAGON TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- A single vehicle crash on Wednesday claimed the life of a teen from Dowagiac.

According to police, 17-year old Landen Taggart was travelling westbound on Peavine Street near California Road when a large tree limb fell on his vehicle.

The tree limb damaged the cab of the vehicle and spun the limb in the roadway while the vehicle continued westbound and struck another tree on the side of the road, according to reports.

Taggart was pronounced dead at the scene, and police say a seatbelt was used in the crash and that alcohol and narcotics are not suspected to be involved.

The crash remains under investigation.

The Cass County Sheriff's Office was assisted by Pokagon Tribal Police, Michigan State Police, Indian Lake Fire Department, and Pride Care Ambulance.
