Teen dies after being pulled from Lake Michigan near Weko Beach

BRIDGMAN, Mich.—A 14-year-old Illinois girl who was pulled from Lake Michigan by a bystander on Sunday has died, according to the Bridgman Police Department.

On September 13, around 1:12 p.m., Bridgman Police officers responded to a possible drowning at Weko Beach.

Officers were told initially that two girls from Illinois were in the water south of the beach area but once at the scene, officers learned that both girls were out of the water.

One of the girls was unresponsive after being pulled from the lake by a bystander, who began CPR until police officers took over.

The 14-year-old girl was taken to a local hospital and was later transferred to a hospital in Grand Rapids.

Police said the girl later died at the hospital.

According to Bridgman Police, the other girl, a 15-year-old, was able to make it back to shore and was not in need of medical attention.
