System snow heading out, Lake effect follows soon after
ABC57 First Warning Neighborhood Weather Forecast
Sunday, January 25th, 2025
A Winter Storm Warning is in effect now until 10AM Monday for LaPorte and Berrien Counties for the incoming heavy lake effect snow. The Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for the rest of Michiana until 10 AM on Monday. Cold Weather Advisories have been extended area-wide for Monday evening to Tuesday morning as wind chills reach 10 to 20 degrees below zero.
All of these advisories and warnings are warranted, considering the persistent wintry weather. System snow exits this evening and heavy lake effect snow develops quickly afterwards. A prominent band of snow will swing from the southern shoreline to the eastern shoreline into Monday morning. An additional 1-3 inches of lake effect snow is expected by Monday—higher totals anticipated by the lake shore. The Monday morning commute will be messy—expect slick conditions and delays. Reduced visibility is also expected.
Temperatures are cold again on Tuesday morning, starting off the day with potentially below zero lows. Snow chances return by midweek as temperatures gradually warm. Highs will stay below freezing through the forecast period.
Tonight: Lake effect snow, bitterly cold. Low 5.
Monday: AM Lake effect, snow tapers by afternoon some evening sun. Bitterly cold. High 12.
Tuesday: Frigid AM, some snow possible, mostly cloudy. High 18.
Wednesday: Chance for snow showers. High 13.
