Suspect(s) vandalize Elkhart gas station, remove storage tank lids

ELKHART, Ind. -- Officers with the Elkhart Police Department were called to the Marathon in the 1200 block of S. Main Street around 2:55 a.m. Sunday morning after the gas station's alarm was triggered.

"Upon arrival, the officer observed a front entrance door with shattered exterior glass, and numerous burnt items in front of the entrance on the ground and inside of a trash can in front of the business," EPD said. "Officer also observed that lids were removed from the underground storage tank. The suspect(s) did not make entry into the building."

It is unclear why the suspects would have removed the lids from the gas storage tanks and the incident is still under investigation.
