Suspect charged in 2025 head-on crash which left 8-year-old catastrophically injured
La Porte County Jail: Shallun D. Culp Jr. LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- The La Porte County Sheriff's Office reports a months-long investigation has led to an arrest in connection with a head-on crash on Oct. 16, 2025, that left multiple people injured.
The suspect, 21-year-old Shallun D. Culp Jr., has been arrested and is charged with OWI Causing Catastrophic Injury, a Level 4 Felony, Criminal Recklessness, a Level 5 Felony, and Driving While Suspended, a Level 5 Felony.
On the evening of the incident, deputies responded to US 421 near C.R. 100 North regarding a crash.

Authorities say Culp then crashed head-on into a minivan traveling south on US 421.
The report states several people were injured, including an 8-year-old who suffered what were described as catastrophic injuries.
Culp and the other injured parties were taken to the hospital for treatment.
The investigation continued for months until the findings were forwarded to the La Porte County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office in early March.
Probable cause was found and an arrest warrant was issued for Culp.
Culp was located in Michigan City Sunday night where he was taken into custody.
He was then taken to La Porte County Jail where he remains held on a $20,000 cash-only bond.
