Student falls from second floor after climbing over railing at Riley High School

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Riley High School Principal Shawn Henderson sent a letter to parents Wednesday afternoon following an incident which occurred around 12:01 p.m.

Henderson states a student climbed over a second-floor railing and fell to the first floor Wednesday.

The letter states that school staff responded to the incident quickly and effectively.

Henderson says the student was alert and speaking when they were taken to the hospital.

The student is said to be in stable condition at this time.

Henderson's letter states in part:

"The safety and well-being of our students is always our top priority. I am proud of the way our team followed safety protocols during the incident and ensured clear communication with emergency medical services. We understand that situations like this can cause concern, and we are here to support our students and families during this time.
