Studebaker National Museum to host public program on The Vanderbilt Cup
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Studebaker National Museum in South Bend plans to host a program for The Vanderbilt Cup within their Wiekamp Auditorium on Oct. 16 at 1:30 p.m.
The event has a $2 dollar fee for the Regular Speaker Series admission with refreshments to follow. Studebaker National Museum members and campus members will be admitted for free.
Curator of Transportation at The Henry Ford will speak about America’s first great auto race.
The Museum described some of the history of the event, "From 1904 to 1910, the world’s best drivers gathered on Long Island to compete for the Vanderbilt Cup, named for sponsor/sportsman/socialite William K. Vanderbilt, Jr. French marques earned the first victories, but when a Locomobile took the prize in 1908, it signaled a coming of age for American cars. Come listen to Mr. Anderson as he explores this important race through vintage photographs and documents."
