SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Shortly before 11:45 p.m. Sunday, the South Bend Fire Department responded to a structure fire at The Jefferson Apartments, with smoke coming from the roof of a building on Rue Rabelais Drive.

A fire was burning in the attic on the north side of the building, and the entire building was evacuated and the power shut off.

Firefighters contained the fire to that attic space in under an hour, but part of the building still sustained heavy water damage.

Several families were relocated to other units in the complex, but there were no injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
