SAINT JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- The Saint Joseph County Board of Commissioners met June 18 to decide that there would be an ecological survey of Portage Manor.
The cost of the survey will cost roughly $4500 and will come from the county decommissioning the manor.
"This ecological study will inventory, what's actually out there and help inform the public, the officials have of what we have, and how it can be preserved, going forward," states County Commissioner Carl Baxmayer.
Baxmayer continues, "Commissioner Dieter and I felt strongly about following the closure was that the especially the natural area, the ravine, really should be preserved. And, and that's something that we're currently investigating the opportunity options and the opportunities. So this really builds on that."
Commissioner Baxmeyer states that future plans for Portage Manor, including the natural area or developing the property, will be decided down the road.
