St. Joseph County Council considers litigation over redistricting

The St. Joseph County Council may consider legal action over newly-adopted district maps.

St. Joseph County Commissioners voted 2-1, twice, to approve the new district maps despite public opposition. The new boundaries severely shrink the size of District 2 to even out the populations in each district.

County Commissioners approved the newly-drawn district maps, on the right, by a 2-1 vote. It still needs final approval from the state.

This Tuesday, County Council members meet for a special meeting to discuss retaining one of the largest law firms in Indianapolis, Ice Miller, "for litigation regarding redistricting".

ABC57 has reached out to council members to get an idea of the exact kind of litigation, and have yet to hear back.
