St. Joe High School student overdoses after taking pills before school
ABC 57 UPDATE: ABC57 reached out to St. Joseph Public Schools Superintendent Kristen Bawks about the incident.
Bawks responded Thursday afternoon with the following statement:
"A student had a medical emergency at our high school yesterday. The student is no longer under treatment. I am not at liberty to share any details as this information is protected under FERPA and HIPPA."
ORIGINAL STORY: ST. JOSEPH, Mich. -- St. Joseph, Mich. Public Safety Director Steve Neubecker confirmed to ABC57 that a female student at St. Joe High School overdosed on Wednesday at school.
The student allegedly told fellow students she took an excessive amount of muscle relaxant or similar pills before coming to school.
While at school, the student became woozy but did not pass out.
An ambulance was called to campus and transported the girl to the hospital to be checked out.
Narcan was administered to the student.
Officials say the student is expected to be ok.
