Splash your way into this weekend and the next with the opening of Splash Pads and new additions to the Merrifield Pool
MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- The Mishawaka Parks and Recreation Department is bringing back a fan favorite, splash pads.
Each year, they open up just in time for the memorial holiday weekend, with the exception of 2020 due to the pandemic.
The splash pads sit within several city parks including; Central Park, Mary Gibbard Park, Battell Park, Rose Park and Twin Branch Park.
Due to construction, the one located at Crawford Park will not be open this season.
Still, Mishawaka Parks and Rec Superintendent Phil Blasko says he’s excited for the water to start flowing.
“Our newest splash pad is at mary gibbard park and I have a huge bucket that will get all the kids wet. We love our splash pads, we love our pool and we think this summer is going to be a great summer,” said Blasko.
But, that’s not all.
The Mishawaka Parks and Recreation Department is making up for lost time.
The pandemic derailed the Merrifield Pool’s 2020 season but this year, summer fun in the sun is a go.
And, it all kicks off next Saturday on June 5th, but the season passes are already up for grabs.
If you haven’t heard yet, there are some new unique attractions suited for adventurous swimmers.
That includes two new 16 foot aquatic rock climbing walls.
The pool is also in the process of installing an aqua 12-foot zip line that takes you straight into the water.
Plus, the slide was just resurfaced and painted to look brand new.
“Our pool, you know it’s 50 years old so we want to bring new life to it and bring new amenities to engage with the younger audience. So having the new aqua climbing walls and zip brings a whole new element to the pool,” Blasko said.
Blasko says they really want to give the community something new and different.
