Speak Our Truth Project hosts Open Mic for the inner child

Speak Our Truth Project

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Participants of all ages are invited to Speak Out Truth Project: Unsilenced Open Mic for the Inner Child on Saturday, Jan. 24.

The event will take place at Lang Lab from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Unsilenced is intended to honor the inner child so we can lead by example for the children watching us.

This family-friendly event creates a brave and welcoming space where art, lived experience, and activism meet, inviting participants and attendees alike to witness the power of storytelling, spoken word, poetry, music, and creative expression.

“This is one of those spaces where I feel like I’m safe and I’ll be heard,” said Carrie Shank, Elkhart Public Schools teacher, reflecting on her experience sharing at the last Speak Our Truth Open Mic event held in July.

Attendees can enjoy a café and 21 and over bar, a local artist gallery, community resource tables, and music curated by DJ Certified Grind.

Families are especially welcome, with free face painting and henna tattoos for children from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Speak Our Truth Project uplifts marginalized voices, centers lived experience, and strengthens movements for child safety, healing, and human rights across Indiana.
