South Bend's yard waste pickup starts Tuesday

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The City of South Bend announced its annual yard waste pickup begins Tuesday and goes through the end of November.

Officials say the program offers weekly pickup of yard waste for $6 a month.

New customers will receive a 48 or 96-gallon yard waste bin with collection on the same day as trash pickup.

You can register for the program online or by calling 311.

Officials say residents who already have a yard waste bin and received service last year, do not need to sign up again for the program.

Permitted yard waste includes:

• Grass clippings

• Leaves or weeds

• Twigs or pruning

• Small branches (less than 2 inches in diameter)

Items not allowed in yard waste bins:

• Animal waste

• Dirt and rocks

• Food waste

• Household trash

• Lumber and large tree limbs

• Oils, liquids, and other hazardous waste

• Plastic bags and recycling
