SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- At the St. Joseph County Council meeting on Tuesday, the 2021-2022 South Bend Washington Lady Panthers were honored for their class 3A state championship win on Feb. 20.
The team’s assistant coach, Karen Phillips, commented on the amount of support that the team had received.
“We appreciate everyone, support was and has been still amazing. I think everyone is still on cloud nine so we just want to thank you so much for the support,” said Phillips.
The team routed their final opponent, Silver Creek, by a score of 93-35, setting the 3A state record for points in the process.
South Bend Washington finished ranked first overall in the state of Indiana with an overall record of 27-3, and a perfect 10-0 finish within the Northern Indiana Conference.
This year’s win marked the team’s second state championship victory in program history, the other coming back in 2007.
20 of the Lady Panthers wins were by double-digits, and the team outscored their opponents overall by more than 900 points.
