South Bend to host MLK Jr. Dream Center ribbon cutting April 4

City of South Bend

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Officials with the City of South Bend will host a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, April 4 at the Martin Luther King Jr. Dream Center to celebrate the building’s completion.

The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. and a march will take place leading up to the ribbon cutting ceremony to recognize and honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who was assassinated on April 4, 1968.

The march will be roughly 0.7 miles and begins at 10 a.m. at the Civil Rights Heritage Center (1040 W Washington St.). It will end at the MLK Jr. Dream Center (1522 Linden Ave.).

Organizers say the ribbon cutting ceremony will take place immediately once the march has ended and all participants arrive at the Dream Center.

"Dream Center staff will provide tours of the new building once the ribbon cutting has concluded," a spokesperson for the event said. "Please note that while the building is complete, there are still final site improvements underway, and programming will not be open at this time."

There will also be live music.
