Winter Storm Wednesday
With the November election on the horizon, Desmont Upchurch, the Republican candidate for South Bend mayor, is now publicly admitting to slapping a woman he was dating while living in North Carolina more than 20 years ago.
“We were never shy about the incident,” he said. “I actually speak about it during October, during Domestic Violence Month. So, I'm known for talking about it. It wasn't a secret. It just never came up in conversations, in debates or anything.”
Records show that Upchurch pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor charge, and he says he was required to participate in an anger management program.
