SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- South Bend Mayor James Mueller put a spotlight on the city's lamppost lighting program.
The mayor was seen installing a lamppost on Chalfant Street on Thursday, and says that he is listening to residents and working to make the most of the project.
"This is something we've heard from residents loud and clear," said Mayor Mueller. "They want to see better lighting in their neighborhoods, and this doesn't change our program to replace all the streetlights with LEDs by the end of the year."
The city has selected two target areas based on income, number of vacant lots, and need for lighting in the neighborhood.
Individuals interested in applying to be a part of the program must do so by August 15 on the city's website.
