MARSHALL COUNTY, Ind. -- The St. Joseph County Police Department reports it has taken over an investigation into a deadly police chase that began in Plymouth Sunday night.

Police say on Sunday night, a Plymouth police officer initiated a traffic stop which then turned into a pursuit.

Marshall County deputies then joined the chase, which continued into St. Joseph County before ending on Kern Road between Bremen Highway and Ironwood Road.

Authorities say the person involved in the pursuit died.

SJCPD was not directly involved in the incident but were called in to serve as the outside investigative agency.

At this time, police can't confirm the individual's cause of death. Authorities are awaiting the results of the autopsy.
