SBPD searching for suspect in several theft and vandalism cases downtown
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend Police Department reports charges have been filed and arrest warrants issued for 51-year-old Vernard Hamilton in connection with multiple theft and vandalism cases in downtown South Bend.
Authorities say in November and December 2024, officers with SBPD responded to several reports of vehicle break-ins and vandalism around the downtown parking areas.
Through an investigation by SBPD's Detective Bureau, they identified the suspect as Hamilton.
The report states on Tuesday, the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office charged Hamilton in two cases.
In one case, Hamilton is charged with Theft and in a separate case, he’s charged with Theft and Criminal Mischief.
Hamilton is not currently in custody.
Hamilton is described as 6 feet 2 inches tall and 165 pounds.
He is believed to be in the South Bend area but has no permanent address.
