SBPD offers free steering wheel locks to local Hyundai and Kia owners

South Bend Police Department

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend Police Department announced due to the uptick of thefts impacting Hyundai and Kia vehicles, they will provide free steering wheel locks to residents who own said vehicles.

Police say supply is limited, so only one lock per person is available.

Authorities say although both manufacturers have released software updates to address issues in 2022, these locks offer an extra layer of security as well as a theft deterrent.

You can pick your free lock up from SBPD's front desk, located at 701 W. Sample St. in South Bend.

SBPD's front desk is open 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., and valid vehicle registration for a Hyundai or Kia vehicle is required.
